the process

Step 1: Initial Contact

The process begins when you contact the SMP studio by phone, email or website form. During this stage, basic information is gathered, such as your hair loss concerns, goals, and availability.

Step 2: CONSUltation

You’ll meet with an SMP specialist to discuss:

  • Your hair loss type and pattern

  • Desired look (buzzed effect, density, hairline design)

  • Scalp condition and skin type

  • Medical history (if applicable)

Photos may be reviewed, and the practitioner will explain the SMP process, expected results, pricing, number of sessions required, and aftercare. A customized treatment plan is created.

*This process can be done over the phone also upon initial contact  as some are eager to have the service done.

Step 3: Scheduling & Preparation

Once you move forward:

  • Your sessions are scheduled (typically 2–3 sessions, spaced 7–14 days apart)

  • Pre-treatment instructions are provided (hydration, shaving, avoiding sun exposure, etc.)

Step 4: Hairline Design & Approval )If Applicable)

Before any treatment begins, the practitioner designs a hairline that suits your facial structure, age, and preferences.
You will review and approve the design to ensure it looks natural and realistic.

Step 5: First SMP Session

During the first session:

  • The scalp is cleaned and prepped

  • Micro-dots of pigment are implanted into the upper layer of the scalp using specialized equipment

  • This session establishes the base layer and overall shape

Sessions usually last 2–4 hours depending on the area being treated.

Step 6: Healing Period

After each session:

  • Mild redness may occur for 24–48 hours

  • Pigment will slightly soften as the skin heals

  • You’ll follow aftercare instructions (no sweating, swimming, or sun exposure for several days)

This healing period allows the pigment to settle naturally.

Step 7: Second SMP Session

The second session focuses on:

  • Adding density and depth

  • Refining the hairline and blending

  • Adjusting pigment tone if needed

This step builds realism and balances the overall appearance.

Step 8: Additional Session(s) (If Needed)

Some clients require a third session to:

  • Further enhance density

  • Fine-tune details

  • Ensure even, natural results

Each session builds upon the previous one.

Step 9: Final Healing & Result

After the final session:

  • The scalp fully heals within 7–10 days

  • Pigment settles into its final tone

  • You’ll see the complete, natural-looking result

The finished look mimics the appearance of closely shaved hair follicles or increased density.

Step 10: Long-Term Care & Maintenance

SMP is long-lasting, but results can be maintained by:

  • Using sunscreen on the scalp

  • Moisturizing regularly

  • Scheduling touch-ups every few years if desired
